Kimberly Webber
Artist's Statement

Each painting begins as a classical charcoal drawing with soft gradations of chiaroscuro (light and dark) across the paper. From the drawing, the composition is built upon with many sheer layers of pure pigment and subtle color washes. Each piece is taken deep into the oil realms to produce paintings that are translucent and light interactive. The finished oil painting is usually 50-90+ layers of sheer color and delicate glazes. Very traditional media are used; vine charcoal, powdered earth pigments, calligraphy ink, handmade oil formulas. Natural elements are preferred for their superior practical applications as well as for their metaphysical properties. The process is an alchemical blending of materials, light and intent. The technique is a fusion of traditional Asian and European schools of painting. Each piece is a healing meditation, a living portal that incorporates the language of the archetypes. Enjoy!
